Abstract
Being the largest Moslem country in the world, the government as well
as the private sectors conducted
Islamic-based school systems, one of them is Islamic-based boarding
school called pesantren or madrasah. Being solely conducted by the private
foundations, each boarding school has its own rules including the use of gadget
(cellular phone) which applied to the students. This study was conducted at pesantren/madrasah in province of
Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s smalletst provinece however with the largest higher
education institutions per square metre. The findings are as totally
prohibition of gadget in a boarding school could be compensated by providing
libraries, newspaper, information provided by the boarding school management
and computer including internet facilitiese albeit their usage are limited. It
is suggested that the prohibition is extended to the exception of senior high
school boardees.
